SEO Cost in India: What You Actually Pay in 2026, and What You Get
What SEO really costs in India in 2026: monthly ranges by provider type, scope and business size, what moves the price, and what ₹30,000/month buys at FansGain.
On this page+
SEO in India costs between ₹10,000 and ₹2,00,000 per month for a legitimate monthly engagement. Most small and mid-sized businesses land between ₹20,000 and ₹60,000. The number depends on four things: who does the work, how much of your site it covers, how competitive your market is, and whether the price includes content and authority building or only on-page tweaks. FansGain engagements start at ₹30,000 per month, scoped after a free audit.

SEO cost by provider type
Who you hire sets the floor and the ceiling more than anything else.
| Provider | Typical monthly range | Best fit | Watch for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Freelancer | ₹5,000 to ₹25,000 | Single-location sites, low-competition niches | One person, one skill set, no cover when they are busy |
| Small agency | ₹15,000 to ₹60,000 | Growing SMEs, regional brands | Junior execution, high client-to-team ratio |
| Mid-tier agency | ₹50,000 to ₹1,50,000 | Competitive verticals, serious growth targets | Make sure senior people stay on your account after the pitch |
| Enterprise agency | ₹1,00,000 to ₹5,00,000+ | Large ecommerce, multi-region domains | Process overhead, slow changes |
| FansGain | from ₹30,000, scoped | Businesses that want Google rankings and AI citations run as one system | Scope and price confirmed in your free audit |
SEO cost by scope
The same monthly fee buys very different amounts of work depending on what the engagement covers.
| Scope | Typical range | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| Local SEO | ₹7,000 to ₹40,000 per month | Google Business Profile, map-pack ranking, reviews, local citations, location pages |
| National SEO | ₹10,000 to ₹2,00,000 per month | Technical fixes, on-page, content, authority building across a country-wide keyword set |
| Ecommerce SEO | ₹40,000 to ₹1,50,000+ per month | Category and product architecture, faceted navigation, large-inventory optimisation, product schema |
| Technical SEO audit | ₹5,000 to ₹50,000 one-time | Crawl, indexing, speed, structure and schema review with a fix list |
| AI visibility (GEO) | Usually bundled, rarely priced alone | Entity clarity, citable content, structured data so AI answers cite you |
SEO cost by business size
| Business | Typical monthly range | What the budget should buy |
|---|---|---|
| Local or single-location | ₹10,000 to ₹20,000 | Technical foundation, Business Profile, a small keyword set, monthly report |
| Growing SME, multi-city | ₹20,000 to ₹40,000 | Everything above plus content and steady link building |
| National or competitive category | ₹40,000 to ₹75,000+ | Senior strategy, content programme, authority at scale, GEO |
| Large ecommerce or enterprise | ₹75,000 to ₹2,00,000+ | Dedicated team, engineering coordination, international or multi-brand |
How SEO is priced: retainer, per keyword, or per project
Monthly retainer
The standard model. You pay a fixed monthly fee for an agreed scope. It is the only model that matches how SEO actually works, because rankings compound over months, not weeks.
Per-keyword packages
Menus such as "10 keywords for ₹10,000" or "50 keywords for ₹40,000". They look transparent and are the easiest way to overpay. Ten keywords can be ten easy long-tail terms or ten terms nobody can win in a year; the price does not tell you which. They also push agencies to chase the counted keywords instead of the searches that bring customers.
Per project
A fixed fee for a defined piece of work: a migration, a technical audit, a content set. Good for one-off jobs. Not a substitute for ongoing work if you want rankings to hold.
FansGain prices on a scoped monthly retainer. No keyword menus, no lock-in, and you own every account and all your data.

What actually moves the price
Competition in your category
Ranking for "seo services" costs more than ranking for a niche industrial part because the pages you have to beat are stronger.
The state of your site
A site with crawl errors, slow templates and thin pages needs months of foundation work before growth work starts.
How much content is needed
Content is the largest variable cost in most engagements. A category with fifty buying questions needs fifty good answers.
Authority gap
If competitors have years of citations and links, closing the gap is real work, and cheap links are the fastest way to a penalty.
Geography
National and multi-city targets multiply the pages, the keywords and the local signals to manage.
Reporting and access
Clear dashboards, Search Console verified reporting and senior people on calls cost more than a monthly PDF.
The danger zone: what under ₹10,000 per month can and cannot cover
Several published guides call anything under ₹8,000 to ₹10,000 per month the danger zone, and the consensus across buyer forums is the same. At that price a provider can run a basic audit, edit titles and meta descriptions, submit a sitemap and send a report. It cannot fund new content, real link building, technical fixes that need a developer, or anyone senior looking at strategy.
Very cheap SEO is usually one of three things: automated tools sold as a service, rented or spam links that Google eventually discounts or penalises, or a package that quietly does nothing after month two. If your site only needs light on-page hygiene and you create content yourself, a small budget can work. If you need to grow, it will not.

A worked example: the first six months of a ₹30,000 engagement
Month 1
Full technical and on-page audit, Search Console and analytics verified in your accounts, keyword and intent map, priority fix list.
Months 2 to 3
Technical fixes shipped, core pages rewritten for intent, Google Business Profile completed and reviewed, schema and entity clarity in place.
Months 4 to 6
Supporting content published against the keyword map, authority and citation work, first AI-answer checks, monthly reports read against baseline.
What you should be seeing by month six: impressions rising on the mapped keywords, priority pages moving into the top 20, and a clear view of which pages deserve more budget. Judge SEO on a six-month horizon, not a six-week one.
How to compare SEO quotes: a seven-point checklist
- 1Is the scope written down, page by page and task by task?
- 2Who exactly does the work, and will they be on the monthly call?
- 3Does the price include content, and how much?
- 4How are links earned, and will you see every one?
- 5Do you own the Search Console, Analytics and Business Profile accounts?
- 6Is reporting tied to Search Console data, not the agency's own counters?
- 7Is there a lock-in, and what happens to your assets if you leave?
A guarantee of a number-one ranking is not a bonus. It is a red flag. Nobody controls Google.
SEO cost in India: frequently asked questions
How much does SEO cost in India per month?+
Between ₹10,000 and ₹2,00,000 per month for legitimate work. Freelancers cluster at ₹5,000 to ₹25,000, small agencies at ₹15,000 to ₹60,000, mid-tier agencies at ₹50,000 to ₹1,50,000. FansGain starts at ₹30,000 per month.
Is SEO free?+
Search traffic is free to receive, but earning it is not. Someone has to fix the site, write the content and build authority. If you do it yourself the cost is your time and the tools you use.
Is cheap SEO worth it?+
Below about ₹10,000 per month a provider can only do light on-page work. If that is all your site needs, fine. If you need growth, cheap SEO delays it and can add penalty risk from bad links.
How much does local SEO cost in India?+
Published ranges run from ₹7,000 to ₹40,000 per month depending on locations and competition. FansGain local SEO is part of the Starter tier from ₹30,000 per month.
How much does an SEO audit cost?+
One-time audits are priced from ₹5,000 to ₹50,000 in the market. FansGain runs the audit free before scoping, because we cannot price your work honestly without it.
What is a realistic SEO budget for a small business?+
Published ranges put local and single-location businesses at ₹10,000 to ₹20,000 per month and growing SMEs at ₹20,000 to ₹40,000. Spend less than that only if you can create content yourself.
How long before SEO pays back?+
Plan on a six-month horizon before judging the engagement. Technical fixes show first, content and authority compound after.
Do SEO prices include Google Ads or AI visibility?+
Ad spend is never included. AI visibility (GEO) is included in FansGain Growth and Scale tiers; most agencies do not price it separately yet.
